Any demolition of a building constructed before 2000 would require an R&D Survey before work commenced.

Why is an Asbestos Refurbishment & Demolition Surveys Needed?

An asbestos refurbishment/demolition survey aims to prevent exposure to asbestos among the workforce carrying out refurbishment or demolition work.

Over five thousand people yearly die from asbestos-related diseases (mesothelioma and asbestosis).

Purpose

An asbestos refurbishment & demolition survey locates and describes, as far as reasonably practicable, all Asbestos Containing Materials in the areas where the refurbishment work will occur or in the whole building where demolition occurs.

The asbestos refurbishment and demolition survey will be fully intrusive and will involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to access all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach.

You will also need an asbestos refurbishment and demolition survey in other circumstances, such as when you carry out more intrusive maintenance or repair work.
