Asbestos Refurbishment & Demolition Surveys

These types of surveys are often called a R & D Surveys

Legal Requirement

Any refurbishment on a building constructed before 2000 would have to have an R & D Survey before the works started.

Any demolition of a building constructed before 2000 would have to have an R & D Survey before the works started.

Why is an Asbestos Refurbishment & Demolition Surveys Needed?

An asbestos refurbishment/demolition survey aims to stop exposure to asbestos in the workforce carrying out refurbishment works or demolition.

Over five thousand people yearly die from asbestos-related diseases (mesothelioma and asbestosis).

An asbestos refurbishment & demolition survey locates and describes, as far as reasonably practicable, all Asbestos Containing Materials in the areas where the refurbishment work will occur or in the whole building where demolition occurs.

The asbestos refurbishment and demolition survey will be fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach.

You will also need an asbestos refurbishment and demolition survey in other circumstances, e.g., when you carry out more intrusive maintenance and repair work.
